MUY GRANDE BBQ Cookoff Winners

The Maverick County Junior Livestock Association held the 4th annual Muy Grande BBQ Cook-Off this past weekend, in which over 77 participating groups competed for bragging rights and a share of $10,000 in prizes.

 

The event was attended by thousands of people who enjoyed the festive atmosphere - which included musical entertainment, food booths, vendors and barbecue cook-offs for adults and children as well. 

 

Jonathan Maurer and members of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Association thanked everyone who participated and attended, and proceeded to present the winners of this year’s cook-off.

 

Mistress of Ceremony Sandra Ruiz announced the winners by category; including in the best Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, Half Chicken, Jackpot Beef Fajitas, Beans and overall categories. 

 

The 4th Annual Muy Grande BBQ Cook- Off winners include in the overall category; all 1st Place ~ Paul Whitaker / Scooter's BBQ, 2nd Place ~ Fred Robles / Rio Valley Meat, 3rd Place ~ Danny Leal / DAMMIT BOYZ , 4th Place ~ Tommy Smith / Bent Nail BBQ and 5th Place ~ Tracy Douthit / Howl at the Moon BBQ. 

 

Brisket category; 1st Place ~ Danny Leal / DAMMIT BOYZ, 2nd Place ~ Tracy Douthit / Howl at the Moon BBQ, and 3rd Place ~ Ray Ramirez / Pig Headed BBQ. 

 

Chicken Category; 1st Place ~ Tommy Smith / Bent Nail BBQ, 2nd Place ~ Grady Speed / Grade A BBQ,

and 3rd Place ~ Danny Patton / One Man Pits. 

 

Pork Spare Ribs; 1st Place ~ Fred Robles / Rio Valley Meat, 2nd Place ~ Jorge Flores II / CSM Cooking, and 3rd Place ~ Daniel Garcia / STX Smokers.

 

 Beans; 1st Place ~ Alfino Flores / Pistoleros, 

2nd Place ~ Mayito Obregon / GR8 Cooks, and 

3rd Place ~ Paul Whitaker / Scooter's BBQ. 

 

Fajitas;1st Place ~ Mayito Obregon / GR8 Cooks, 

2nd Place ~ Bobby Salas / Bar-B-Cuties, and 3rd Place ~ Richard Anzaldua / HCCO Red Raider Smokers.
